Just a stone in the forest by ToaTiome Just a stone in the forest by ToaTiome
First of the two posters I'm making for Brickfair! (That is, assuming I can rush and get the second one done in time to get it printed... erk.)

This is one of those random stones you can find throughout the MNOLG, like in Nokama's hut or at the gate to Ga-Koro. There are a few areas I'm still touching up before I print it – the tops of the vines, some of the moss, the eyes on the stone (haven't decided if I like them angular or want to round the bottoms like they are in the game). And I'm gonna mess with the shading on the text some, too. but I kinda just wanted to put this up for people to see.

Critique is very much desired! Drawn on paper and inked with micron pens, colored in Photoshop with my new Bamboo tablet.

I just love this style! This image also kinda sums up why I love Bionicle so much - mysterious things in a strange and wild land, and all that. Awesome work!

I'm a devoted fan of Bionicle so I'm always exited when I see people that still produce art based on it, especially when the art in question is this good, It is simplistic but that actually works in it's favor because it is evocative of the original MNOG artwork. I can't really offer any constructive criticism because I think it looks spectacular and while I would have drawn it differently, I didn't draw it so all I'm going to say is... on the topic of the eyes, the carving is based on the kanohi hou so you should use that as a reference for the "accurate" shape but I personally think it looks great and you should leave it as it is. Keep up the awesome work Toa-Tiome!

Very nice; love the textured feel and how it seems to pop out despite clearly being drawn.

RIP Bionicle 2001-2010

All those years I spent being a bionicle fanboy, now two years have passed. Its so sad, I dont think they'll revive the series. But I do hope the bionicle community will be revived somehow. We could've been bigger than MLP, but we never did become that big.

People often overlook the environments in the series. MNOLG was beautiful.

Woot! Really incredible! I love the coloring of this one-- it feels like it's hand-painted with watercolors, and the calligraphic BIONICLE text is pretty incredible. The little Fikou is a nice touch, although he's small enough that he could almost go unnoticed. I kind of think he might have been better-placed in the fork of that tree, just poking out from behind.

Still, this is an amazing artwork. I look forward to seeing it at Brickfair! Are you going to be there yourself, or are you just sending it in?

On a side note, while the landscapes of the Mata Nui Online Game were pretty epic, I've always felt it would have been cool if there had been more biomechanical-looking plants in the BIONICLE theme. While the plants seen in some of this year's Hero Factory boxart, with occasional exposed computer circuits, wouldn't have necessarily matched the aesthetic of BIONICLE, I've still always felt that the typical plant life in the BIONICLE theme felt way too "normal" compared to the typical animal life. And, as a consequence, hard to build from LEGO parts without it looking blocky or unrealistic. >.<

The moss on the tree looks fine, but I think you can put a little more moss on the stone. Everything else looks pretty good!

You and your ability to draw plants that look like God himself painted them out... ;___;

I'm with ~saffronscarf on this one - I'd love to have a print of this. The colors are beautiful, the textures create a lot of depth... <3

I don't know if there should be some sort of shade on the heads of those giant toadstool things to the right of the tree (due to either the ferns or the vines). They look rather flat at first glance. But that's just me. XD

Same with the ferns on the right-hand side. The bottoms f the fern have that nice smooth shading for the leaves, but they get very 2-dimensional at the top. That seems super nitpicky ohmigosh, but I noticed it right away, so I thought I'd bring it up. :)

BTW, the fikou completes the picture. Perfectly. I adore the Fikou. <3

Oh, look, a Fikou.

Nice tree and shading, gives it a serene state despite the turmoil that was likely on the island at the time.

Liking the hand-written Matoran script; looks far better than just circles.

Gorgeous, perfect. I want a print of it.

The letters in BIONICLE are spaced evenly at the beginning and then very close together at the end; perhaps have some of the letters overlap at the front of the word or space them all out evenly. (I'd say go for overlap to maintain that hand-scrawled look.)
